A few will be awarded during the Adventure mode though. You can also buy flowers from Dave for $2500 per plant. The plants awarded during the game are all defense plants, not flowers. It keeps him going for a full hour collecting the coins your Zen Garden generates, without you having to do anything. @joannickle: I thing the garden doesn't come up until after you've beaten your first pass thru the game. I frequently get a new plant and have gotten 2 in the same game before. This is a good way to get plants and chocolate and get in some good practice too. I just play the Survival games. Look in your almanac - each row corresponds to the plants you receive during adventure mode of the game. First row-day; 2nd row - night; third row - pool; fourth row - fog; and fifth row - roof. You do not get any special/upgrade plants though. Supposedly Survival Endless drops random plants and I do get plants through mini-games, but to work for a certain plant keep playing the Survival time/area until you do (it took me a week of just playing Survival Night: Hard to get Gravebuster - I got all the other shrooms twice!). It is random and you don't get plants everytime you play, and if you full up your initial Zen Garden (lots of marigolds), there won't be any room for new plants. Hope this helps.! Check around the base of your chomper: are there little gold sparklies? If there are, it will occasionally spit out a coin for you. If it's asking for water/plant food, it'll start giving you money once you water & feed or spray it for the day. The flowers will give you money once they're full grown. For the shroom, you'll need to buy the Mushroom Garden from Dave first. There, you can raise it just like you raise the day plants in the regular garden. The tree talks to you. It gives tips, makes weird comments, and on certain significant numbers, it'll give you a word you can type to make funny things happen during the games (like make the zombies wear mustaches.)
